Commentary

Full-length standing portrait of a woman, head turned to her left, her right elbow on a draped pedestal. Plants in lower right foreground. Miss Woodley was born in 1760. Label on back of frame says she was the daughter of William Woodley, Esq., Governor of the Leeward Islands (from 1766 to 1771), "one of the most remarkable beauties of the Day"'; married 1784, Henry Bankes, Esq., of Kingston Lacy, Dorset, M.P. for Corfe Castle; died at Old Palace Yard, Nov. 22, 1822, aged 62.
