Commentary

Half-length portrait of a young woman facing front, head turned to her right. She wears a beaded choker and long necklace bearing a small portrait of a man. Her gown is belted, has full sleeves and high collar. Jane, daughter of Sir William Maxwell of Monreith, married Alexander, 4th Duke of Gordon, in 1767. She died in 1812.
