CommentarySir Robert Jackson was an alderman and M.P. for Berwick-upon-Tweed in five successive parliaments (1605, 1608, 1616, 1627, 1640). He was knighted in 1616 or 1617 by James VI. Mark Jones proposes other Robert Jacksons as the medal's subject: Robert Lowick, known as Robert Jackson, a Jacobite executed in 1694; or the Robert Jackson who was British minister to Sweden, 1709–17. Jones also suggests Michel Molart (1641–1713), who was an ivory carver, as well as a medalist, as the possible artist.
