Calendrical and Astronomical Pendant Watch

Most sixteenth-century watches were made in Germany and France, but during the early 1600s, watchmaking centers began to flourish in other countries. George Smith, the English maker of this watch, entered the guild known as the Clockmakers’ Company in 1632, the year after its founding. Smith is recorded as working “next to the New Exchange” and having two apprentices (probably John and Paul Jacob).
