The Adoration of the Magi
In this plaque, two kings stand at the left, one pointing behind him toward the North Star while the third kneels at the feet of the Holy Family to present a gift. The presence of an African king in Adorations of the Magi was first seen in northern European paintings before being adopted by Limoges enamelers. The attribution to Jean Reymond is based on close stylistic and technical similarities with enamels signed by him, including the Last Supper dish in The Frick Collection (1916.4.31).
