BiographyArriving in Paris in 1745 from his native Swiss canton of Neuchâtel, Berthoud became a master clockmaker in 1754 and horloger du Roi (clockmaker to the King) before 1773. One of the great clockmakers of his time, he wrote extensively on timekeeping and is credited with many horological innovations.
