BiographyMember of an artistic family which included notable architects and sculptors, Francesco may have worked both as architect and military engineer, but he is known primarily as a sculptor in marble. He was a pupil of his father, Giuliano, and he assisted Andrea Sansovino with sculpture for the Santa Casa at Loreto. His first important commission, dated 1526, was a Madonna and Child with St. Anne for the Orsanmichele, Florence.
