Ferrante Loffredo (d. 1573)
This model was no doubt produced before the abdication in 1556 of Charles V, who is represented here in his imperial capacity, and after Loffredo was made Marquess of Trevico in 1548. The reverse shows the conferring of a military title or appointment, referring perhaps to Loffredo's appointment as governor of Magna Grecia by Charles V. Based on stylistic observations, the medal has been tentatively associated with the work of Pietro Paolo Galeotti. However, Loffredo's medal also appears to have several traits in common with a group of medals produced by the so-called Milanese School.
