CommentarySperone Speroni was a Paduan humanist and scholar who taught first logic and then philosophy at the University of Padua. He moved to Rome later in his career but returned to Padua to concentrate on his writing. His Dialogo della retorica (1542) was followed by discourses on a broad range of topics, including the nature of love, language, and ancient writings. The present medal, along with that listed in Armand and by Attwood, is a signed version. There are also other fine, unsigned versions.
