CommentaryThe die for the obverse was broken, and a faithful reduced copy (59 mm) was made by Jean Dollin (act. 1680–1717), who was probably not the original artist. The medal was probably offered to the king in 1672 as a token of loyalty and affection from the citizens of Paris, which was ironic since Louis had little love for his capital city.
