Louise de Pisseleu, Madame de Jarnac
This portrait and that of the sitter’s husband, the Baron de Jarnac (1916.4.20), were inventoried in 1762 as framed together in the Château de Jarnac. Although it is of the same dimensions as the other and faces it as a pendant, its lesser quality—the features are simplified and flat—suggests that it is not by the same artist. Assuming that the provenance is accurate, this enamel may have been commissioned to match the other at a later date.
