Hubert Gerhard(Dutch, ca. 1540–1550; d. before 1621, act. in Germany)
Like so many of his Dutch compatriots, Gerhard left Holland at an early age to pursue his career further south. Although no Italian sojourn is recorded, he is believed to have gone to Florence and studied with Giovanni Bologna. By 1581 he had traveled northward again, finding employment with the Fugger family at Kirchheim; he was also active at Augsburg, Munich, and Innsbruck. Best known for his fountains, Gerhard worked primarily in bronze and clay.
