Philippe Caffiéri(French, 1714–1774)

Caffiéri was born into a family of sculptors and trained as a sculptor himself before specializing in bronzemaking. He worked as a partner in his father’s atelier until the latter’s death in 1755, when he took over the shop and became a master bronzemaker. He was one of the first to supply furniture mounts in the neoclassical idiom emerging at mid-century.
