BiographyEighteenth century English clock and watch maker Thomas Mudge intially made watches with verge escapements, but circa 1757 he was mostly making cylinder escapement watches. At the end of the 1760's, he left London and moved to Plymouth, where he devoted the remainder of his life to making and perfecting the marine timekeeper, attempting to win the longitude prize.
