BiographyDomenikos Theotokopoulos, called El Greco, was born in Crete, then a Venetian dependency. He reputedly studied with Titian in Venice, then moved to Rome in 1570. By 1577 he had settled in Toledo, where he spent his remaining years. His extensive production consisted almost exclusively of religious subjects and portraits.
