Commentary

On April 21, 1792, the Spanish king Charles IV and Maria Luisa of Parma founded the Royal Order of Noble Ladies of Queen Maria Luisa, a court institution that honored women for community service and extended to Spanish colonies. In Mexico the following year, the noblewoman Maria Guadalupe de Moncada y Berrio commissioned this medal from Gil to commemorate the founding of the order.
