Commentary

Jeannin was Superintendent of Finances under Henri IV and Louis XIII (the latter, in 1617, restored him to this post, from which he had been temporarily ousted). This medal belongs to the second of two known types; possibly a reworking of the first type, the second is distinguished by subtle changes to the costume, including the addition of a brocade pattern to the robe and a different number of buttons on the shirt.
