Commentary:

The Trustees of the Frick are pleased to announce the museum's most recent acquisition, Grapes with Insects on a Marble Top, the generous gift of collector Asbjorn R. Lunde. The work, by the Dutch painter Gerard van Spaendonck, is among the few oil paintings by the artist in an American public collection. Van Spaendonck was active in Paris, where he held a number of prestigious academic posts and royal appointments during his long career as one of France's leading still-life painters.
