Brandani is believed to have been born and trained as a sculptor in Urbino, where he worked at the Palazzo Ducale and in various churches.  He probably spent 1552–53 in Rome, executing stuccoes at the Villa Giulia for Pope Julius III.  Later in his career he worked in Piedmont.
